Cambridge Women’s Center: Indoor Housekeeping

Mission Statement: The Cambridge Women’s Center supports, educates and empowers women. Located in a welcoming, home-like environment, the Center is a safe, supportive space for all who identify as women. The Center provides learning opportunities, support groups, and resources that help women make positive, sustaining changes in their lives and the lives of their children.

Volunteer Opportunity:  Help arrange and clean up the Women’s Center. Duties include: sweeping, washing woodwork and heating units, vacuuming. Will also organize the front porch area designated as the center’s donation holding area.


The Charles River Conservancy: Gardening/Outdoor Maintenance

Mission Statement: The Charles River Conservancy is dedicated to the stewardship, renewal, and enhancement of the urban parklands along the Charles River, for the enjoyment of all. The Conservancy promotes the active use and vitality of the parklands, increases recreational and cultural opportunities, and works to ensure the beauty and integrity of this extraordinary public resource.

Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteers will plant of a few hundred daffodil bulbs and clean up the site in anticipation of the springtime flower blossoms.


Clement Morgan Park: Outdoor Maintenance

Volunteer Opportunity: PT will provide a general cleanup of Clement Morgan Park. This park is right across from PT North.

Community Servings: Food Prep

Mission Statement: Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts and in Rhode Island to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. We give our clients, their dependent family members and caregivers appealing, nutritious meals, and send the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. Our goals are to help our clients maintain their health and dignity and preserve the integrity of their families through culturally appropriate, home-delivered meals, nutrition education, and other community programs.

Volunteer Opportunity: Perform meal prep and packaging for clients of Community Servings

Fletcher Maynard Academy

Pentecostal Tabernacle: Toiletry Drive/PT Sanctuary Clean Up

Mission Statement:  Restore lives broken by the consequences of sin and bring these lives to the point where they bring glory and honor to God.

Donations Needed: Donate toiletries for the local shelters. Items will be donated on October 1st, 8th, and 15th. The following men’s women’s and kid’s toiletries are needed: socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, soap, shampoo, deodorant, hats, gloves, mittens

Volunteer Opportunity 1: Transport toiletries to various shelter locations. Must have a car.

Volunteer Opportunity 2: Since the day’s festivities will encroach upon the PT Housekeeping team’s normal cleaning time, we will clean up both church locations. These duties will include:

  • Dusting, vacuuming, straightening up Upper Sanctuary and Balcony
  • Cleaning restrooms
  • Sweeping/mopping lower sanctuary and restroom vestibules
  • Setting up lower sanctuary chairs for Sunday morning


Pine Street Inn: Dessert Drive (Offsite) & Food Service (Onsite)

No. of Volunteers Needed: Unlimited (Dessert Drive @ PT North); 6 (Serve Food @ Pine Street);  2 (Drop off Desserts @ Pine Street Inn, must have car).
Ages: 18+
Location: 363 Albany St, Boston, MA, 02118
Time: 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Mission Statement:  Pine Street Inn partners with homeless individuals to help them move from the streets and shelter to a home and assists formerly homeless individuals in retaining housing. We provide street outreach, emergency services, supportive housing, job training and connections to employment. We tirelessly advocate for collaborative solutions to end homelessness.

Donations Needed: We also need several volunteers of all ages to make desserts for guests at the Pine Street Inn. Desserts should be dropped off at PT North the same morning between 9:00am and 2:00pm. Desserts will be driven to the Pine Street in by volunteers. Desserts can be homemade or store-bought. If you are making a dessert, please include a list of ingredients used, in case of allergies. Some dessert ideas include: pies, cake (all varieties), cookies, pudding/custard and fruit.

Volunteer Opportunity 1: Six volunteers will serve dinner and dessert to 120 shelter occupants.

Volunteer Opportunity 2: Transport Desserts from PT North to Pine Street starting by 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 28th. Must have a car.


Salvation Army: Indoor Maintenance/Decor

Ages: All ages, children must have parent/guardian supervision.

Time: 11am-1pm

Mission Statement: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible.  Dedicated to reaching our communities for God, we are motivated by the love of God and seek to minister to the whole person by meeting their needs both physical and spiritual without discrimination.

Donations Needed: PT’s Sunday School needs several arts and crafts items (e.g. yarn, markers, colored construction paper, and anything else you think is appropriate) to create decorations for the Salvation Army. Arts & Crafts donations can be dropped off on October 1st or 8th at either service.

Volunteer Opportunity 1: PT’s Sunday School will create autumn seasonal decorations for the Salvation Army kid’s section during Sunday School on October 21st.

Volunteer Opportunity 2: Volunteers will decorate the kids section. Volunteers will also incorporate seasonal autumn decorations made by PT’s Sunday School. (Decorations will be complete the previous Sunday during Sunday School).

Volunteer Opportunity 3: Gather and deliver toiletries to the local shelters. For more information refer to PT North Toiletry Drive above.


 YWCA: Outdoor Maintenance & Toiletry Drive

No. of Volunteers Needed: Unlimited (Toiletry Drive);  15 (Yard Clean Up);  1 (Drop off Items @ YWCA, must have car).

Location: 7 Temple Place, Cambridge, MA
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00pm

Mission Statement:  YWCA Cambridge is the city’s oldest and largest residential housing provider for women. A cornerstone for providing safe, affordable accommodations for women and families, YWCA Cambridge’s Housing & Shelter Services include 103 units of single room occupancy (SRO) housing for single women and a 10-family shelter for homeless families. Cambridge is an institution in Cambridge and Marshfield dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Volunteer Opportunity 1: Assist the YWCA with cleaning their outdoor surroundings of the YWCA building eg. raking leaves.

Volunteer Opportunity 2: Gather and deliver toiletries for the local shelters. For more information refer to PT North Toiletry Drive above.
