Beliefs

Welcome to this page outlining the core beliefs of Pentecostal Tabernacle (PT). As you peruse our beliefs, consider that God’s mission for PT is to restore broken lives – and all of our lives have been broken. God’s great love draws every one of us to Himself, gives us a heart to receive His truth from His Word, and forgives and heals us as we trust in Him.

We invite you to join us on this journey of restoration!

Bible

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired by God, and are the revelation of God to man. They are the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct (II Timothy 3:15-17; I Thessalonians 2:13; II Peter 1:21).

Trinity

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (II Corinthians 13:14).

Deity of Christ

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, to which all of the following supernatural associations attest…

Church

We believe the church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. Each believer born of the Spirit is an integral part of the general assembly and church of the firstborn whose names are written in heaven (Ephesians 1:22; 2:22; Hebrews 12:23).

Salvation

We believe that man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life (Luke 24:47, John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Salvation

Justification

We believe in divine justification, a judicial act of God whereby He justly declares righteous the individual who believes in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior (Romans 3:28, 5:1).

Justification

Water Baptism

We believe that baptism by full immersion is commanded in the scriptures. All who repent and believe in Christ as Savior and Lord should be baptized. In this way, they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life. This ordinance should be administered by full immersion in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47,48; Romans 6:4).

Water Baptism

Sanctification

We believe sanctification is an act of separation from evil and of dedication to God (Romans 12:1-2; I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:12). Sanctification is realized in the believer by recognizing one’s identification with Christ in His death and resurrection and by offering oneself continually to the dominion of the Holy Spirit (Romans 6:1-13; Romans 8:1,2,13; Galatians 2:20).

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe that all believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit. With it comes the endowment of power for life and service, the bestowing of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; I Corinthians 1:1-31). The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4).

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Lord's Supper

We believe the Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements - bread and the fruit of the vine - is a memorial of His suffering and death (I Corinthians 11:26) and a prophecy of His second coming. Sharing the Lord’s supper is one of the few New Testament ordinances that Christ commanded of believers, which we do in a solemn and meaningful portion of our worship services on a regular basis.

Lord’s Supper

Sanctity of Life

We believe human life to be precious, beginning with conception, and it should not be aborted (Jeremiah 1:5).

Sanctity of Life

Dedication of Children

We believe that the dedication of infants and children to the Father, while not an ordinance, is a spiritual act, and it shall take place periodically (Matthew 19:13-15).

Dedication of Children

Divine Healing

We believe divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16).

Divine Healing

Wellness

We believe that God blesses His believers in all aspects of their lives. “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers” (III John 2).
a. Spiritual - John 3:3; II Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 10:9-10.
b. Mental - II Timothy 1:7; Romans 12:2; Isaiah 26:3.
c. Physical - Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:17; I Peter 2:24.
d. Financial - III John 2; Malachi 3:10-11; Luke 6:38; II Corinthians 9:6-10; Deuteronomy 28:1-14.

Wellness

Heaven

According to His promise, we look for a new heaven and a new earth in which righteousness dwells (II Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:22).

Heaven

Hell

We believe there will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone (Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 19:20).

Hell

Blessed Hope

We believe in the resurrection of those who have died in Christ, their translation together with those who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, and their final, eternal reward at the judgment seat of Christ. This is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church (I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Romans 8:23; I Corinthians 15:51-52, 2 Corinthians 5:10).

Blessed Hope

The first 18 topics on this page are drawn from the PT Tenets of Faith which were prayerfully considered and established by the Board of Elders. Italicized portions within each of those topics are the wording of the Tenets themselves.

Non-italicized portions were developed by the PT Discipleship Team, a team of Elders and members of the church, to expound on those Tenets to address the needs of our church. The Discipleship Team also introduced the following 4 topics that are vital to the life of our church.

Prayer

Prayer is the way in which we communicate with God, Who is a real person (John 15:15 He calls us friends); and includes worshiping, giving thanks, petitioning, and interceding.

Prayer

Worship

The term “worship” broadly refers to both praise and worship: worship is the adoration we give God for Who He is; and praise is the honor and appreciation we bestow on Him for what He has done.

Evangelism

Evangelism is the verbal presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to someone who does not know the Lord, in such a way that the person can understand who He is – both Savior and Lord.

Evangelism/The Great Commission

Service

When we are taught the Word of God, we should understand and apply it by serving God, our fellow believer, and our community (James 2:14-18).
