Day 31 | Objects of God’s Mercy

Helena Afordoanyi

And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.
Exodus 25:22 (NKJV)

The ark of the covenant carried the presence of God and was the meeting place between God and the high priest during the days of the Israelites. It was built according to the design and the instruction of God.

After constructing the ark, the Lord directed that the testimony, Aaron’s rod and a pot of manna be put into the ark. The story behind these three elements symbolizes the stubborn hearts of God’s chosen people, which attracted His judgement.

Yet, the Lord instructed a special design called the mercy seat, to be put on top of the ark of the covenant with two cherubim overlooking the mercy seat. The mercy seat sits on top of the ark and covers the contents (the judgment) inside the ark. And the Lord said “There I will meet you from above the mercy seat”.

In other words, the He said “put the objects of judgement beneath and cover it with the object of My mercy. And I will meet you and speak with you from the place of My mercy”. God in His infinite love chooses us as the objects of His mercy and not the objects of His wrath. So much that, Jesus Christ even taught us to pray by first acknowledging the Father, then asking for His kingdom, His will, and our needs even before asking for forgiveness of our sins!

Do not go to God condemned. He already took care of the sin. Come to God knowing that He is a merciful father who loves heals and restores. You are not the object of God’s wrath, you are the object of God’s mercy. Amen!

Confession: I am the object of God’s mercy. Amen!
