Day 36 | 7 Last Words II

Sonayah Charles

One of the criminals hanging on the cross next to Jesus kept ridiculing him, saying, “What kind of Messiah are you? Save yourself and save us from this death!” The criminal hanging on the other cross rebuked the man, saying, “Don’t you fear God? You’re about to die! We deserve to be condemned. We’re just being repaid for what we’ve done. But this man—he’s done nothing wrong!” Then he said, “I beg of you, Jesus, show me grace and take me with you into your everlasting kingdom!” Jesus responded, “I promise you—this very day you will enter paradise with me.

Salvation

Have you ever been in a situation where someone stole something and somehow you got included in the group of people being accused of the theft? Imagine how Jesus felt when He was crucified with two sinners, thieves, He came to save, when He Himself never sinned. He died in between two men that were without the Promise, disqualified, accused, blemished by the weight of sin. But yet in His perfect love and grace, He was able to look past all of this and see the two thieves as those worth saving.

The promise of Jesus is one that is perfectly crafted to reach the lost no matter how deep in the land of the lost you are. One thing I love about promises is that they bring a certain level of security and assurance for anyone receiving it. No matter what happens, no matter what fails you can guarantee that that promise still stands. The beauty of Jesus’ promise to us is that it actually has nothing with us and the things we do.

To the slave, to the free, to the blind and to the bound. His promise of love is made available to any willing and open to receive it. It is a guarantee that cannot be tampered with in any way. This Promise is a gift that cannot be denied, a gift without flaw or blemish. This Promise is the hope we have in Christ Jesus. That He died for all of us, the unqualified. Made us worthy of His cause unto salvation.

Prayer: Lord I thank you for your salvation that without You, I was unable to receive. I thank You for saving me despite my blemishes. Thank You for giving me new life and another chance.
