The Gospel is the message of the death of Jesus Christ as punishment for our sins, His resurrection from the dead, salvation through no one else but Him, confession of Him as Lord, and Him as the only means to the Father (Romans 3:23Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
; 5:6-8Romans 5:6-8

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
; 6:23Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
; 10:9-10Romans 10:9-10

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
; Acts 4:12Acts 4:12

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
). Evangelism is the verbal presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to someone who does not know the Lord, in such a way that the person can understand who He is – both Savior and Lord – and why that person should believe in Him.

  • Many methods may be employed in outreach for the purpose of evangelism – such as holding outdoor concerts/events, visiting the sick, doing acts of service for our neighbor/community – but evangelism is only accomplished when the Gospel itself is presented.
  • Sharing the gospel with unbelievers is a command of Christ to all believers (Matthew 28:19Matthew 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
). Not only has Christ commanded us to share His gospel, but He has specifically set this as strictly a work of believers (2 Corinthians 5:18-20II Corinthians 5:18-20

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
) to present Christ (in His reconciling love) to the world; so if we do not preach then the work does not get done (Romans 10:13-17Romans 10:13-17

For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
). The actual process of the presentation may vary according to audience and circumstance (Jude 22-23Jude 22-23

And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.
    ).
