Day 33 | Get Ready, He’s Coming

Bethel Adekogbe

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
Revelations 1:18

Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.
Matthew 24:45-46

Jesus first appeared to humanity more than 2000 years ago. With His death and resurrection, He took the keys of death from the accuser and gave all the world’s people a path through which we can reconcile our original relationship with Yahweh.

In the Revelation of John, we are given a very powerful description of Jesus; “The one who IS, who WAS, and who IS TO COME.” It’s easy to know He IS because Christ can live within us (Ephesians 3:17). We understand that Jesus WAS because He was with God in the beginning (John 1:1-5).

However when we say “HE IS TO COME,” how exactly do we live out that reality? Should we wake up every day anxious that Jesus will be returning? Should we ignore it completely and live as if He won’t be returning any time soon? Matthew 24 gives us our answer. We should remain diligent in what He has called us to do. Regardless of whether He comes in our lifetime or not, His sacrifice on the cross is enough motivation to continue to be diligent in the faith. His resurrection is enough motivation to not fear death and revere Him.

Reflection: What does it mean to live with the ever-present thought that The Almighty One is on His way?

Prayer: Yahweh, we thank you for your death and resurrection. You gave the life of your only begotten for us to be free from the fear of death. Help us to continue to be faithful and diligent till you return.
