Day 34 | Can These Bones Live Again?

Sadé Warren

Ezekiel 37:1-14

One of my favorite parts of this season is the recognition that Christ did the impossible! This is the time where we get to reflect on the birth of Jesus all the way to His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead.

“If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his
Spirit in you.” Romans 8:11 (GNT)

2 Corinthians 3:17 teaches us that “the Lord is that Spirit” being spoken about which means that in His own power, Jesus rose from the dead. I’ve never heard stories of anyone bringing themself back from what we know as the end point of someone’s life.

Ezekiel 37:1-14 records an account of God doing something similar. When I think of bones, it’s the ultimate proof that the lifespan of that thing is absolutely finished with no chance of it coming back. Here in this chapter, God asks Ezekiel a question: “Can these bones live again?” Now if I was asked this question, my answer would have been a resounding “absolutely not” but when you look at the power of God in tandem with the obedience of man, the impossible is immediately made possible. Ezekiel prophesied and “the bones were covered with sinews and muscles, and then with skin” and “breath entered the bodies, and they came to life and stood up”. What seemed like it was finished was the starting place for God to show His power just like Jesus’ death. For many, they thought the death of Jesus was the end and that they had won, when in reality, God was only getting started. We serve a God who makes the impossible possible and the beautiful thing is, He hasn’t changed and He never will.

Suggested Song: Jesus Iye | Nathaniel Bassey

Jesus iye, You have done it again,
Jesus iye, in Your special way
What was impossible
You made possible
Jesus iye

Reflection: What are the “impossible things” God is trying to prove are possible? How can I further obey His will to see His power at work in and through me?

Confession: The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in me! In me is the solution to the “impossible” (Romans 8:11)
